Comic Pressing

Pressing is the term given to the direct application of pressure (with or without heat and/or with or without humidity) in order to reverse, eliminate or lessen some forms of damage. Its main purpose is the improvement of a book’s appearance (and therefore) condition. While pressing has been a mainstay of restoration treatment for decades, it has only recently been adopted by some comic collectors as a way of improving the overall appearance of a book without finding or purchasing a higher grade example.

The process of pressing a comic book does not usually involve the dis-assembly of the book (i.e. removal of the staples and separation of the folios). Instead, a controlled environment is created where methods and technologies are utilized to provide direct application of pressure to the surface of a comic book in order to remove deformations and light defects.

HOW DO I GET A BOOK PRESSED THROUGH CGK?

A properly completed CGK submission form MUST be included with the submitted item(s). Failure to submit a properly completed form WILL incur a $5.00 processing fee from CGK or may result in the return of customer items at the customer's expense.

Please use the CGK submission form and follow the instructions listed in the information sheet on the Comic Grading Kings website at www.comicgradingkings.com. All orders MUST be prepaid in advance at the time of item submission to CGK.

Submitted books should be sent in properly sized bags and backing boards (please do not use self sealing bags, please do not use oversized boards, as they may cause damage during shipping). How do I get my books shipped back?

When it comes to us sending your books back, you have two choices, we can send them back directly to you or we can forward them on to PGX for grading. The price does not differ either way. It is very important to note however, if a book is a Signature Series book, you must not remove the book from its slab yourself prior to it being sent to us. We can only press books and keep the signature valid if the book is a PGX Signature Series Book. If you wish us to press a book that is a Signature Series book from another company other than PGX the book will be submitted for grading to PGX only. A de-slabbing fee will apply ($3 per book).
